I've been here more times than I can count, but this was the first time I saw the red rock draped in white. No crowds. No lines. Just silence, snow, and sandstone. It was almost deserted compared to summer, and honestly... it might be my favorite way to experience it!

Winter in Moab hits different. Yes, some popular spots take their off-season break, and yes, it's cold. But pairing snow-covered arches with the vast beauty of Canyonlands National Park makes the chill worth it. Fewer people, more magic! If you can handle the cold, this might just become your favorite time to visit too.

If Arches had an entrance to the Fire Swamp… this would be it!

If you caught that nod to The Princess Bride, you're my peeps!

After the first wave of the snowstorm rolled through Arches National Park, the desert transformed. Fog drifted between the sandstone fins while fresh snow softened every edge.

This is the trailhead toward the famous Landscape Arch, with Tunnel Arch and Pine Tree Arch along the way. If you push the full loop, you’ll find Double O Arch, Dark Angel, and Private Arch standing quiet in the storm. This isn't the norm, this trail is normally bustling with people eager to experience the awe of Landscape Arch.

I didn’t risk the full loop this time. The snow was picking back up, and the trail was slowly disappearing beneath my shoes. But standing there alone, watching fog weave through sandstone towers was surreal!
Snow in the desert feels like a secret, since I didn't grow up around it, I'm glad this secret was shared with me that day.

Doubles Arch at Arches National Park in January was absolutely incredible. After the snowstorm rolled in, I had to go back to see it covered in snow.

It was overwhelming, so beautiful and I was the only one there! I wandered all over, capturing photos from every perspective, trying to capture just a fraction of how surreal it felt. The red sandstone draped in white, it’s a sight I’ll never forget.

I have so many photos from this trip, and this one moment at Doubles Arch definitely stands out as unforgettable!

After stopping at Forrest Gump Point, where the road disappears into the horizon, I continued on into Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. This is one of those places I’ve wanted to see for so long! As someone who’s constantly chasing the outdoor, hikes, landscapes and experiences, this one felt almost surreal. The 17-mile scenic drive, loops through the towering sandstone formations rising nearly 1,000 feet above the desert floor. The road was nicely graded, best in a 4x4 or SUV, but completely manageable if you take it slow in a 2WD. Around every bend, the view shifted, each butte and mesa looking like a still frame from a classic western!

I pulled off whenever formations or compositions caught my eye, lingering longer than planned, letting the stillness of the desert settle in. The last entry is at 2:30 p.m., and the full loop takes about 90 minutes to two hours if you stop often (which you should). I packed a simple lunch so I could stay out there a little longer, taking it all in without rushing. Monument Valley reminds me exactly why I love exploring new places. getting away from fast pace life to feel quiet, unforgettable beauty and recharge.

Park Info in 2026
$10 Park Entry PP
$15 Vehicle Fee for Scenic Drive

I haven't tried one of these AI trends... so I thought I would give it a try. The first caricature was processed on my computer. The second one was done on my phone.

This is how you make yours! Go to ChatGPT and add this prompt with a selfie or a photo of yourself:

"Create a caricature of me and my job based on everything you know about me. I've also attached my photo for reference."

How did yours turn out?

Arriving in Moab with my camera ready and no real plan, just chasing light and adventure. Driving the Shafer Trail was unreal, but this moment along the Potash ponds stopped me in my tracks! The red rock cliffs and distant snow capped peaks reflected perfectly in the still water like Utah was putting on a private show. I pulled over, grabbed my gear, and soaked it in before taking the shot.
Moab, Utah never disappoints!! Wide open space, epic desert views, and reflections that don’t even look real.

When I pulled into the Sand Dune Arch parking lot and saw it blanketed in nearly four inches of fresh snow, it felt surreal. Arches National Park is breathtaking on any day... but covered in snow, it's pure magic. I grabbed a quick sandwich, checked the map, and saw the hike was just 0.4 miles round trip. No hesitation. Absolutely worth it.

Getting to experience Sand Dune Arch wrapped in white was something I'll never forget. It may not be the largest arch in the park, but walking through those narrow sandstone walls with snow softly lining the rock felt incredible, quiet, peaceful, and almost otherworldly. I'm beyond grateful I got to witness that rare combination of red rock and fresh snow. Moments like that stay with you.

I put the drone up… just for a few minutes.

The sun had already dipped behind Long Canyon Road in Moab, but the view was too good to ignore. This was the first off-road trail I drove back in 2018 in Moab. Back then, I was in a 2WD Explorer and couldn’t make it to the top.

This time, the trail was more washed out, yet easy with the right rig! Ionic drive! Same massive fallen rock you pass underneath (I shared it a couple weeks ago if you want to scroll back). Just a completely different outcome.

If you’ve got a 4x4, you shouldn’t have any problem reaching the top, and the views are absolutely worth it. Plus, you’re just minutes from Canyonlands and Dead Horse Point State Park.

Safe travels!!
